The concept of day-night cricket was first proposed by the late Tony cozier, a renowned cricket journalist from Barbados, in the early 1970s. However, the first-ever official day-night cricket match was played in 1978, when the Australian cricket administrator, Kerry Packer, introduced World Series Cricket, which included day-night matches. The success of these matches led to the development and introduction of day-night cricket matches in international cricket.
The first-ever official day-night cricket match was played between Australia and West Indies at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados, from 27th-30th November 1978. The match was played with a red ball, and the West Indies won by 2 wickets.
